The Brunel Engineering Reel-Fed Double-Sided Tape Applicator is designed for the accurate and reliable application of double-sided tape to paper, card, corrugated and other suitable substrates.
The system accepts tape reels of up to 325mm diameter and can apply both Fingerlift and Edge-to-Edge double-sided tapes at speeds of up to 55 metres per minute.
With its compact design, adjustable tape guides and flexible control options, the Brunel Tape Applicator is ideal for integration into automated production lines and is particularly suited to packaging, print, POS and paper-processing applications.
The Brunel Tape Applicator is designed for tape widths typically between 12mm and 24mm.
Standard user-changeable tape guides are available for:
12mm wide tape
18mm wide tape
24mm wide tape
Additional tape guide sizes are available on request.
The machine can apply both:
Fingerlift tape
Edge-to-Edge double-sided tape
For Rippa/Tear tape, the Bobbin-Fed version of the Brunel Tape Applicator is generally recommended.
The latest Brunel Reel-Fed Tape Applicator can operate at speeds of up to 55 metres per minute, subject to tape type, application length, substrate and product characteristics.
The machine uses a small motor to generate controlled slack in the tape, helping to optimise the start and stop position and provide consistent tape application.
The tape feed is controlled by an integrated logic relay system and requires an external pattern controller.
The Reel-Fed Tape Applicator can accommodate tape reels of up to 325mm diameter, suitable for 12–24mm wide tape.
The standard reel configuration uses a 3-inch (76.2mm) core.
The larger reel capacity reduces the frequency of tape changes and makes the system particularly suitable for longer production runs and applications where operator intervention needs to be minimised.
The Brunel Tape Applicator can be supplied as a complete application system or as the tape machine only.
The complete system can be supplied as the BES® TM500 TM01, including:
TM80 mounting bracket
TM137 control box
Pattern controller
Encoder
Photocell
Tape application machine
This provides a complete solution for accurately applying tape to products travelling through an automated production line.
The tape machine can also be supplied separately.
This is particularly useful for applications requiring multiple tape applicators operated from the same pattern control system.
Multiple tape machines can be installed on the same mounting bar, allowing two or more strips of tape to be applied to a single product.
For twin tape applications, machines can be positioned side-by-side with a minimum spacing of approximately 135mm between machine centres. However, for improved access and maintenance, Brunel recommends positioning multiple machines one downstream of the other where the application allows.
A suitable transport conveyor is required to carry products through the tape application system.
A vacuum conveyor is ideally suited to the application as it provides reliable product transport and helps maintain the correct position of lightweight paper and board products during tape application.
The system can apply tape to 80gsm paper and above, subject to the performance and suitability of the vacuum transport system.
Brunel Engineering Services can supply complete vacuum conveyor systems designed to integrate with the tape applicator.

Multiple Brunel Tape Applicators can be installed on the same conveyor to apply two or more strips of tape.
This makes the system suitable for applications requiring:
Twin tape lines
Multiple tape positions
Different tape patterns
Multiple strips of double-sided tape
High-volume automated tape application
The applicators can be configured to suit the individual product and tape positioning requirements.
